The Cumbia
One of the regular seen folkloric dances in Panama is the Panamanian Cumbia, also known as ‘La Danza del CĂrculo’. Although it is not considered Panama’s national dance, it competes with it in terms of popularity, and also includes the use of drums as a central basis of dance. Its danced by couples and used to be accompanied by several instruments which are now often replaced by the accordion. The Cumbia is the folk dance which best captures the spontaneous, fun-loving mood of fiesta time in Panama.
